help me diag ABS

car is 86 325e
My ABS has slowly come to fail.  Symptoms at first
were abs would cycle when slowly down to near stopping
speeds. Light would still be off.
Several weeks past.
Now light stays on all the time and abs is bypassed.
When I start the car the light would be out(abs
working) as soon as i start driving for about less
than a block, abs light goes on and stays on.

I tried cleaning the abs gears(spraying with brake
cleaner and hosing).

Does anyone know how to diag the sensors? how to check
for correct resistance and so forth.  I hope I don't
have to bring it to the dealers and get ripped. I'm an
active DIY, skilled enough to have installed alarms,
remote starts, head swaps.  I need some schematics on
the abs but can't seem to find any.

some of my bearings will be needing replacement in
theh future(this should take care of the sensor gear)
but the actual abs wheel sensors will be really
expensive to replace if faulty.

Question: I thought the early bmw rear abs had only
one speed sensor, ive noticed on my i have individual
sensors on each wheel, just wondering.
