yeah, its a gunk build up that causes intermittent connections.
solution:
get some electrical contact cleaner. you can find it at any electronics
store or radio shack. MAKE SURE THE RADIO IS DISCONNECTED. then pull off
the knob and squirt a good bit into the potentiometer (the actual volume
control). put the knob back on and turn the knob from one end to the other,
all the way, several times. it should be a lot better now.
