2002 Accelerator Pedal

Hi-

I have a '75 2002...I'm having problems with the accelerator pedal. It 
continually comes off of the pegs that it anchors to on the floor and it 
seems that there is a lot of friction between the pedal and the lever. I've 
tried readjusting and oiling the lever. Should I get a new pedal (and will 
getting a new pedal really solve the problem?) or is there another solution?
