Bob-
   Might you be referring to the Air Flow Meter adjustment?  On the bottom of 
the AFM housing there is a deep hole with an allen head adjustment screw 
inside. (Easy to miss...)  
   There is an 8 position(?) switch in the Motronic called the "Fuel Quality 
Switch"  It is meant to compensate for fuel types, depending on original 
delivery destination from the factory.  Most folks I've heard about have the 
best results leaving this alone, with a few exceptions...
