Service Indicator reset tool

Now that my 1993 325i is out of warranty I want to do my own Service
Indicator resets. But, my reset tool is the old type for pre-1987 cars.
So, should I buy an adapter or a whole new tool?  What brand of each do you
recommend?
If I buy a new reset tool, what do you think I could sell  the old one for?
It is a genuine BMW tool, purchased for a BMW dealer in Munich, in perfect
condition.
