I'm thinking about doing some various modifications to my '86 325es, and was
wondering about past experiences from other owners:
1) Remove the crank driven fan and replace it with the auxiliary fan for
the AC (by paralleling a thermostat with the switch/relay that activates the
fan when the AC is switched on). This may be good for a couple of HP, but
I'm more concerned with decreasing engine warm-up time and increasing
efficiency. Has anyone tried this? I may get a more efficient electrical
fan to replace the auxiliary fan.
2) Head modifications per Pete McHenry and Jim Rowe (e.g. drilling out oil
passages for cam bearings #2, #4, and #6 and using a 325i cam and springs).
How much should I expect to pay for all this, and is it really worth the
money? I love the torque of the eta motor, but would not mind a little more
top end...straight-6 motors sound so nice at high RPMs...
Thanks in advance for any information.
