Exhaust Studs

Studs are M6, nuts are copper M6 but with a 9mm hex outside dimension.
Just order them from a dealer - they are pretty inexpensive even without the
15%-25% CCA discount. And you know you'll get the right parts! There is no
advantage to getting them elsewhere.

Actually there is an advantage to getting them elsewhere. BMW used to
provide studs with a stop (all exhaust studs are full thread from BMW) so
you could gauge how far to screw them into the head (actually, they still
do on many of the intake studs). Be careful when buying non-dealer
studs...you want to make sure they are compatible with your aluminum cast
head. Some studs are only good for steel and don't be tempted to buy
stainless steel studs. Also, with the aftermarket studs, you can source
higher grade (tensile strength) than the typical property class 5.8 that
BMW provides, upgrading to a p/c 8.8. These are the ones that I stock for
the BMW engines, both in 6mm and 8mm diameters. SD
