Improving performance of an E36 328i

I've got a friend whom is looking at improving performance of his 1997 E36
328i. At the moment the engine
is bare stock but he has done up the exterior (AC body kit, sport
suspension, 17'' rims 225/45/17,etc). He
wants to know what can be done to improve the performance of his car. All
suggestions, opinions, recommendations
welcome....
