[E30] Broken Glovebox Handle

The glovebox door on my E30 318i is broken.  The handle wasn't opening 
the door, and a piece of metal (shaped like a backward 'L') dropped onto 
the floor of the car.  In trying to open the glovebox, I ended up 
breaking the handle off.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to open the glovebox?  Once it's 
open, I guess that I can replace the broken hardware.
