WD-40 Origins

WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement" and was the 40th formula the engineers
tried before they hit on a workable product. So, you see, there really was
a WD-1, WD-2, WD-3 and so on. It was originally developed for the U.S.
Military who needed a spray product to keep missles at the ready as I
recall. It worked so well that it made the jump into the civilian poplace.

Also try BOESHIELD. Developed by Boeing. Stuff works pretty damn good and
stays on longer than WD-40.
