Mike (and those fearing that they've overrev their motors):

One test for checking for bent valves (short of removing the head) is to
have your mechanic do a compression or leak-down test on all cylinders.
This would be the first step in determining whether or not you have
problems with bent or burnt valves. I recently had this performed on my
95 M3 -- all cylinders were rated "excellent" with approximately 5%
leakage.
