<E30> Brakes and Headlights question

The brake lining light illuminates when the pads have become worn and
need to be replaced. Here's how it works: voltage is applied across a
loop of wire running through the front driver's side and rear
passenger's side brake pads. When the pad wears thin, the sensor
wears, too, cutting the wire. This opens the loop and puts on the
idiot light.

So, when you're checking out the system, you should first make sure
that your pads are still good (despite what the PO said he did). Then
look at the harness connecters from the chassis. They have a tendency
to wear out and break. The p/n is 61 12 1 367 674, should you need to
replace a harness. Remember, you're looking for any break in the
wiring.

Regarding your blinker/headlight problem...it sounds as if the switch
is bad. I haven't done it myself, but replacing the switch doesn't
sound like too big a deal.

Good luck!
