PROBLEM: Y2K and ECUs - THE FIX

How is it that "The problem will affect all BMWs manufactured after
3/1/91..." and "[will} cost of only $2K (two thousand dollars) per ECU",
but "for those with BMWs manufactured before 3/1/91, the fix is only
$1K(one thousand dollars) per ECU"? Doesn't seem like a BMW made before
3/1/91 should have a problem with the Y2K issue if the given info is
correct. Your response, Mr. Eberhart...
