<E30> Jacking (Apologies to UK contributors)

As this has again cropped up in recent postings surely there must be a
"best, or near-best, method" of jacking up the various E30 models.  I
have looked at the usual non-official BMW related websites and have
noted a few methods but would still like to get some more ideas.
Driving onto ramps on a sloping driveway may be ok to change the oil and
oil filter but is not the ideal situation for other repairs.
With all of the various repairs and modifications carried out by list
members this basic operation (jacking) has to be performed frequently
and without damage to the vehicle.
