72' 2002 oil leak

My oil drip in my beloved '72 2002 has been upgraded to a slow leak. It's
probably because I am commuting 40 miles to work each day. What's the best
way to track a leak? Should I do a dye test and should I clean the engine
off before doing it or look for dye trails over top the old stains?
