Hey digesters, I recently traveled to Europe, and found out that the
newer E36 3-er have free form headlights, not the elipsoid type euro
lights that we can buy in the US. After talking to a local dealer, I
found out that BMW used elipsoid type light from '92 to '96, and from
'96 on they switched over to the free form types, they are brighter,
have a more even light pattern, and they are simply better than the
elipsoid ones that was used before according to the dealer. You can
identify the new style euro headlights by looking at the new M3 broucher
from your dealership. They have little "dots" on the top of the glass
cover across the top of the headlight. You can also wire the city light
to the parking light, so the high bean housing light up slightly when
the parking light is lid, to give you a "Euro" look. I already got a
set for myself, they are awesome, you can use bulbs of your choice, I'm
currntly running 100w for both high and low beam, but you need to
upgrade the fuse. They really make your car look good, the plastic
cover turns dull on our US lights, these new ones are tinted looking
glass material cover. These are a little more expensive than the
elipsoid types. If you are interested, you can email me at the above
address. I'm willing to take a trip again to Europe if demand is high
enough, and negocoate with my seller, perhaps I can get a discount for a
big purchase..... who would pass up the chance to go 250 kmh on autobahn
again....<grin>, test driving my uncles' cars is quite fun.....:)
