As a continuation of what Ron Browne started, here is the tally from the
hose replacement on my '91 E30 M42 318is picked up this morning:
__BMW PN__ __Item__ __price_(what I paid, anyhow)

07-11-9-975-349 " $1.08
13-54-1-739-235 " $7.92
13-54-1-277-301 " $6.30
11-53-1-721-847 " $10.02
11-15-1-739-266 " $10.70
13-41-1-721-907 " $12.24
11-15-1-717-858 " $12.96
11-15-1-277-301 connector $00.57
11-15-1-727-393 " $1.08
51-61-1-730-964 bushing $1.22
NPN(no part no.) clamps $1.00
He also replaced the
12-61-1-730-160 oil sender unit $12.90.
Labor was $165 to remove and replace the throttle and intake to get to
these hoses, some of which you can't even see, let alone reach, without
removing the intake.
Sure, it cost a lot, but it beats getting stranded in Urbana, Illinois
at midnight on a Sunday.......again!
As for my Yuletide tip, here goes:
For those of you who live where things tend to free solid (like here in
northwest Indiana), go buy a can of "TRIM CARE" by Rubber Seal Products
(available at most moderately disreputable supply houses for about $10
per 12 oz can). It is silicone free, and it works great for keeping the
doors from freezing to the rubber seals! I used it here about a month
before it rained a week straight, then dropped 30* overnight, and my
door opened as easily as it would if it were warm out.
Maybe I should have used it on my wipers, because they were frozen to
the windshield, and it took five minutes to free them.
