<E34> 535i vs. 525i/M50

My 92 535i was recently totaled and I'm looking for a replacement.  I liked
the E30 engine very much.  But I was wondering if I should also consider the
E34/M50 (525i).  I would greatly appreciate any discussion based on your
collective experience, ie. the pro's and con's of these engines, especially
low end torque, reliability and ease of maintenance.  Thank you.
