E28: Alternator Needed

I've got a noisy alternator on my '86 528e. I've noticed that BMW used
different alt. in the model year. My car was made in 10/85. Can I use an
alt. from a newer model (528e: 2/86 - 88) in my car? If not, does anyone
have a used alternator for sale? Or maybe I should look in to rebuilding
it? can that be done? Thanks for all the help in the past with my
questions.
