Michael,

What I think this boils down to is the individual ear. You ask if someone
can hear all the separate instruments, and I for one can. If the timbre of
an instrument (that's the normal sound of the instrument) is muffled or
worse, absent, then I feel cheated.

Some people hear music, some people feel music. BMW sound systems suck.
This isn't a slam at you or your perception of sound, but to someone who
feels the music (god that sounds corny) the systems we buy aren't up to the
standards of the rest of the car.

Your comparison of a lady driving her M3 15 mph and saying it handles like
crap is more in line with your comments than Michael #1's. She can't
appreciate the car and even though we know she is wrong she complains.

Let it go. You may (from your comments above at least that's what I have
to go by) be one of those unlucky folks who can't hear every instrument
playing in a symphony. Many can and to those that can, the system is as
important as the struts and springs.

Not a flame,, simply my take.

Later.
