318i head replacement

Hi all,

I have an '84 318i that has what appears to be a cracked head. I don't have
any records from previous owners so I'm not sure what repair work has been
done, the odo shows 170k. 
The question-Will installing a rebuilt head cause any problems to the bottom
end assuming the engine hasn't been rebuilt? What things should I be looking
for?
