BMW and Ford

Hello,
If you accept the premise that auto merger is inevitable (some pundits
think there will be only seven or eight car companies eventually) then
Ford is one of the best if not the best partner we can hope for. Besides
being a big fish in an ever shrinking pond, they make by far the best
American products-(I know that may not say a whole lot) and have been
gaining ground on the general since the early eighties. The fact that
clinches it for me is that Ford is still the only company in The U.S. to
go European racing in abig way. They were in F1 with the Cosworth before
GM knew how to spell F1. They won the Gt racing championship,LeMans 4
times and countless other Road Races. The kind of racing and driving we
relate to. They also sell cars in Europe under their own name and dont
hide behind some other name(Opel)
I know that none of the people that did this stuff still work there but
it is very much still a part of their corporate culture and they are
proud of it. They even have Their own M type division known as SVT and
while they had a dark period, like everybody else in the 70's, they have
been building hi-po alternate market cars since some guy named Shelby
asked about engines in the 60's. GM has never done anything like that
and still think that roundy -round turn left racing Nascar style is the
epitome of technolgy and development.
If a buy-out /partnership happens, our beloved Bavarians could do a
whole lot worse.
