<E36/5> Need help on windshield replacement

I'm posting this for a net impaired friend .  She has a 96 318tiS and her
windshield was badly cracked by flying debris last week.  

Her insurance company said they will not pay for factory BMW glass.  They
said that they will only pay for OEM or OEM-equivalent glass.  I haven't
priced it yet but I'm sure the BMW glass is close to $1000 and with her
deductable I doubt she will be able to afford covering the difference
herself.  

Anyway, the insurance company mentioned a company called Safe-Lite, or
something like that, as the glass company they would recommend.  My
question is if anyone else has any experience with this glass manufacturer
or if anyone knows who the manufacturer of glass is for the BMWs made in
the US?  Also, has anyone had problems after having non-BMW glass
installed?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
