The comparison was between an A4 2.8 Quattro and a 328i. The BMW
is only $ 2k more then the Audi, not $ 10k.
Yes, the score was very close, put we where talking about performance,
( A4 with chip and suspension etc.......) The 328i was a full second faster 
from 0-60mph, and 8.8 sec to 130mph. One Mississippi, two Mississippi....
The 328i was also 5.8mph faster thru the slalom. That's where the BMW 
"kicked butt"!!!!!!!!
I agree, the A4 is a fine car and its build quality and materials are better
then those of the E36, but BMW has fixed those areas on the E46. IMHO,
the only advantage the A4 has is the 4 wheel drive.
I'm glad Audi is catching up to BMW, because the competition will benefit
us, the consumer.
