radar hook up

hi
i just bought a new radar detector
i am thinking of tapping it into the wiring system of the car (similar to the
calibrator that i have - it comes on when i start the car)
so, i want to wire the radar into the wires that hook up the calibrator so the
radar will turn on whenever the ignition is on.
i want to avoid plugging it into the cigarett lighter (i have a discman)
any apparent problems???
