(E30) Cannot reset SI leds and whining from rear

I've looked thru numerous FAQs but haven't found anything that matches
my symptoms.  I'm a first time digester and am hoping that some of you
can shed some light on my problems.

A red and yellow SI LED is constantly on-even with ignition off.  The
SI reset tool cannot reset these LEDs.  This started when I replaced
the car battery.  I don't use this car daily, so I'm afraid the
battery will get drained just sitting around.  I'm aware of the SI
LEDs and speedo problems posted in FAQs that 
suggest the SI on-board batteries need replacement.  Could these
constant on LEDs just be another symptom to the SI problems?

Secondly, I have a whining turbine sound that seems to be coming from
the right rear.  The sound starts around 35mph and does not seem to
vary whether the car's accelerating or coasting or rounding a corner. 
I assumed it was a bad right rear wheel bearing so I
replaced it--btw that job is a real PITA!  The new bearing did not
make any difference.  The sound definitely sounds like it's coming
from the right rear.  What else could it be?  The CVJ?
