<Misc> Re: Driver's training put on by BMWCCA

You'll be pleased to know that the BMWCCA offers one of the best values in
driver's training in the country. Schools typically run anywhere from
$100-$150 a day and typically include track time with an instructor in the
car full time, classroom time, and at some facilities if you're lucky,
skidpad training. The schools are typically broken into three or four run
groups based on peoople's experience levels to assure that people are moving
at about the same speed on the track.

You'll need a car in good condition and a snell 90/95 helmet (You're
probably best off getting a 95 if you're buying since a 90 will be obsolete
fairly soon).

You can also sign up for local area autocrosses to work on your car control
skills. Many of the chapters around the country schedule a lot of
autocrosses through the summer months. These typically run $15 for the day
and include 3 or more (depending on crowd size) runs on a 45-85 second
course set up in a very large parking lot (sports stadium large).

Your local chapter newsletter should have details about schools or you can
check the BMWCCA schedule of events at tracks around the continent (some
great tracks in Canada too). It's not unusual to go on 2, 7...um, er...11
hour (more? multi day?) trips to get to your favorite track for the weekend.
