<E28/E30>ABS

Do any of you E28 experts out there know if there is also an ABS overcharge
relay on the E28's as the E30's had and where it is located? On my '87 535is,
the ABS light has never come on (not even when starting the car). The
previous owner told me when I bought it that the ABS didn't work and he was
willing to negotiate on the price since he knew it might be expensive to fix.
I've confirmed that it is defective by sharply applying the brakes in a wet
parking lot and noticing the wheels locking up. Are there any other items to
look for? Thanks in advance for any advice.

>Fernando,

>The problem you are experiencing is due to the boost that your daughter got.
>There is something in the ABS system called and ABS Overcharge Relay, and
>it's job is to short out before any major electrical surges get to the ABS
>computer and do some real damage.

>If you are lucky, your car comes with this piece of equipment. It seems
>that some E30's had them and others didn't. I think your car does have this
>relay and you are therefore safe. Once this overcharge relay is replaced,
>you will again have access to your ABS system.

>The relay is located in the dash on the left side of the steering column.
>Just pop out the 4 retaining screws on your dash panel and look up close to
>the light switch. The ABS computer is a large silver box (sort of like the
>DME) and the relay will be somewhere near it.

>Good luck, and let us know what happens,
