Strange shifting
I looked at two M5s this weekend both were great cars.
If anyone wants a beautiful concours type car O.T. Adcock has one in
Williamsburg VA for 27k asking. Nice guy, full maintenance, no
affiliation blah blah. I'd rather buy this car, but I don't think
there's 8k worth of difference.
The other is the one I have a question on... It has 96K miles and looks
great. However, it will not downshift to second gear until the car gets
below about 40mph. I figure it's a worn out second gear synchro because
it upshifts fine. All the other gears engage normally and the clutch
works fine. I don't think its linkage related as there isn't a whole
lot of play. I am assuming the linkage is similar to the E30 M3 I used
to have with the problematic bushing on the bottom of the shift lever.
So to make a long story short... Is it worth buying a 91 M5 with 96,000
miles possibly needing a 2nd gear synchro for $19.3k?
What does r&r and a rebuild on a 5-series transmission run?
Thanks
Joel
