Mismarked Clutch Forks

I ran into Brett Anderson yesterday doing a clutch job on a Saturday and he
indicated that a clutch fork that I had included with a clutch package was
the wrong part. I was under the assumption that there was only one fork
for all std trans models after the 2002. Upon examining the parts CD,
there is a different fork for the E34/E36 with M50 motor (also 96-on M3).
Comparison of the 2 different forks show very subtle but significant
differences which even a BMW Master Tech such as Brett would not readily
notice until the part was installed. Apparently BMW NA has the two forks
mixed up and the ones I received are clearly mislabelled....I will take let
my local dealer know on Monday so he can advise the BMW NA parts
distribution centers to recheck their bin locations. If you've purchased
a clutch fork for installation in your car, you may want to compare it
closely to the one you're taking out. SD
