I have read several articles on this and they agree with you completely. =
The torque converter is the key.
Torque converter =3D manual shifting automatic -- Porche, Chrysler,
Lexus etc
No torque converter =3D automatic shifting manual -- BMW, Ferrari,
F!; no others (yet)
