<e30> Oxygen Sensor

Recently the 'check engine' light in my 89 325i has been coming on
periodically at moderate highway speeds.  It comes on breifly, then goes
out, always at what seems to be a very easy cruise or possibly under mild
throttle lift, not when under acceleration etc.

Thanks to the Unoffiical E30 site, I found the info on reading out the
fault code by watching the blinking lights (see also
http://www.infomatch.com/~cbaisley/bmw.htm) if you're interested.  I get
the 1221 code, which is the oxygen sensor.

Question 1: is this enough information for me to conclude that all I need
to do is get a new O2 sensor?

Question 2: what is the general concensus on using the Ford part instead of
BMW OE stuff?
