E 36 ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL

Does anyone know how to fully remove the accelerator pedal from a 97 M3?
I've figured out the "C" clip at the top, but the bottom pivot point remains
a mystery.  Th bottom of the pedal seems to plant into the padding et al.
under the carpet.  Is it just a snap fit?  I've tugged upwards pretty hard
but it doesn't want to come loose.  I need to fully remove the pedal to get
an AC Schnitzer pedal cover on correctly.  Thanks in advance, Matthew.
