Welded Diffs & Spools

Do not, repeat, DO NOT weld the diff or install a spool in a street driven
car. Period.

As to why a welded diff/spool can power a car around a corner without any
apparent differential action, tire slip. That is one, but not the only,
reason race cars go through tires so much.

Many IT Golfs weld the diff. Very effective on the track, a cv buster in
the paddock. The diff changes the inherent understeer of the
weight-forward fwd Golf to pulling the car into and through the corner.
The fastest way around the track, and leaves the open diffs in the dust.
Doesn't apply to BMWs, natch.

Road racing Camaros, Mustangs, etc. often use spools to replace balky lsd.
It chews up some tires, but they get replaced anyway.

Dragsters use spools, light and foolproof for straight line acceleration. A
pain to turn around in the paddock.

Back to the flamefest.
