E34 Right Side Wiper

I have an E34 with OEM windshield wipers (arms, blades, frames, etc.).  The
right side windshield wiper arm has two flat posts that rest on either site
of (cradle) the blade frame.  Sometimes, when the windshield is somewhat
dry, the blade frame slips out from between the flat posts and when the
wiper comes back to park, the aft post rests on top of the blade frame.  In
all other respects, the wipers work fine.  

Has anyone removed (cut-off) the offending posts?  If so, were there any
consequences?
