323i water pump disassembly advice needed

I need to disassemble the water pump on my (1979-81?) 323i engine but
haven't been able to find a documented procedure.  Does anyone have any info
on disassembling this unit?  It's similar (if not identical) to the early
E30 325i water pump.  I need to determine the bearing type and don't want to
destroy it in the process so having the correct procedure is important.
