Performance Proms
Charles,
You cannot and should not run the European chips for one good reason....
they are not certified to meet American air pollution standards and are
really geared for a different market.
Jim's chip is without a doubt the best as each and every user will attest
(even probably the professional racers). And even Jim's chip will probably
pass emissions tests.
The difference is that Dinan's chip is coded to pass the Calif. standards
and is given a CARB number.
So it comes down to philosophies and markets. Dinan tunes timing and fuel
(tightens the otherwise loose factory parameters) to meet emission
standards and compromises ulimate performance.
Jim (and this is probably an ignorant guess) tunes for efficiency and
performance (over a wider rpm range) with marrower guardbands for emissions
factors.
In any case you can't go wrong with a firmware retune. Remember though that
you must now run premium and remind yourself to remove the Eprom or protect
the new code every time you go to the dealer to avoid an over right.
