Re: How do we make an E28 or E24 go fast?

Ed,

Thanks for your post. Only one question though - you say the stock BMW
springs are: " Stock springs for the i, is, and M are approximately 150, 170,
and 190 in/lbs"

But I've heard the 535i and M5 use the same part # 31 33 1 126 024

and the is uses either: 31 33 2 225 645 or 31 33 2 225 646 E28 Front Springs ?

Also, I think the spring rate for the 535i and M5 is about 140lbs

I got this imformation from an article by Pete Read but is seems reliable.

Has anyone calculated the spring rates of stock springs with one coil taken
off?
I've heard people talk against "progressive springs", but that's what seems to
be on my car from BMW and I know Porsche used some that were made of titanium
- - not too shabby.

5. Springs. Run the stiffest springs you can stand. Stock springs for
 the i, is, and M are approximately 150, 170, and 190 in/lbs
respectively. Most aftermarket springs are between 200 and 240 in/lbs.
 I ran into a clubracer using rates a little over 300 in/lbs. I
