The bags have specific resistance to specific signals. Every time you turn on the ignition, the control unit carries out a
resistance check of the bags. It would take quite some work to find the required Ohmic value of the piece of lint.

There are two lights, one is a bulb, one an LED fixed to the cluster board. If either goes bad a fault is set and the light is
turned on. It would be extremely difficult to disable the LED without damaging the board. The main reason you don't want to do this
is that E36 clusters have a habit of requiring warranty repair. If you go into the cluster you will have great difficulty getting
warranty on it at a later date.
