I was the original postee of the yellow civic so here is what I have to
say about the ensuing flames of which I have recieved very little. In
fact the only one I recieved was by a person who said i was
discriminating by using the words "this guy". What would you like me to
say, hmmm, a person, freak, idiot, young man or what. I'm sorry, but to
me, and I'm sure that the rest of the digest feels the same, the words
"this guy" means a person who I don't know. Exactly what does it mean to
you? Also, YES I HAVE DRIVEN A HONDA AND ACURA FOR PROLONGED TIMES. I
was recently given the choice of a newer and nicer (aestheticaly) CRX. I
opted to stay with my BMW for one simple reason, although many weighed
on my final decision. The reason? It is a better car. It is much
smoother, and easier to drive and I must say that I felt safer driving
my car fast. I HATE the feeling of understeering and rather be given
oversteer. What is scarrier, the fact that you can't turn enough or you
can turn more if you smash the throttle or late brake or whatever. The
Honda outclassed my car in some areas but my car had, in car magazine
talk, a better average score. This means that while the Honda may have
had ac, it didn't have power steering, it did have a peppy engine, it
didn't have any torque at below 3000rpm, it was more refined, it didn't
offer as many features as the BMW, it was nimble, it didn't like going
fast and was toooooo short. These just begin what I had to decide on.
The BMW came out on top and it is what is currently parked outside at
this moment (I hope). I don't have a problem with Honda and have very
high respect for them as engine builders and car designers. A Honda will
give a BMW a run for its money when it comes to how well everything is
designed, but BMW edges out in how well everything works in concert. By
now some of you may be wondering who I am and what I do. Let me answer
these. I am an engineer, I just turned twenty, and I go to colege at
A&M. So, how is it that I take all this into consideration. Simple, I
look at everything. There isn't enough stuff in this world for me to
look at. So in all my looking I don't compare badges I compare what the
badge includes. What made me irate with the Civic owner was that he
doesn't understand what a BMW is. IT IS NOT A SIMPLE BADGE! A BMW is
like I originally said, is a car for those who drive enthusiasically.
The guy wanted a new M3 so bad and yet for the money he spent on the
Civic he could have bought a good used M3. It wasn't the car he wanted,
all he wanted was a sign saying "I'm a yuppie with lots of dough." I
have also driven cars that some cringe at. Jeeps, minivans, and an old
dirty rusty chevy truck with push bars and roll bar all rusted over with
6 colors of primer. Oh, the tailgate didn't always lower either. I must
say that if you haven't driven a truck, not a suv a truck, then you
don't know JACK. Especially and old one. You ever tried driven in the
rain with good tires but no weight on them. Talk about overkill. more
often than not I slid around turns after coming to complete stop. I may
be young, but I'll be damned if I don't have stories that top some of
yours. so let the flames continue, hell ain't frezen over any time soon
so I'm gonna have to get used to the heat.
PS use logic and some sense when living. I once heard that a person can
do everything an engineer can do just that the engineer can do it for
less. Hek, even engineers use duct tape. Have fun.
Craig Robson.
