<02> Re: Tii Questions

Good Morning Bimmerheads!

Regarding Bob J's two tii questions:

>1. What is the best starting procedure for these cars ie: Do not touch gas
>pedal

Under "normal" conditions being that your car has an electric fuel pump you
should not have to depress the accelerator until the moment the engine
attempts to start. Remember, these cars are fuel injected cars, but they're
"mechanically" fuel injected, so it's not like starting a late model
electronic f. i. car. I have had to depress my pedal on rare occasions, when
the engine was flooded or my cold start valve was not functioning properly,
but that is really not the best way to start a tii.

>2. My turn signal lever is on the right side of the steering wheel. I think
>my 72 Tii had it on the left. Is this normal ?

Prior to 1974 "all" 2002's had the turn signal stalk on the right
side...beginning with 1974 it went on the left to be like the "typical" LHD
only US cars. Your '72 must have been a "special" edition...been messed with?
