 I have the last of the E30 325iCs - a 1993, with nearly 50k on it now
and I have always had a sound coming from "back there". I wouldn't
call it a sawmill, but I would compare it very closely to the sound
that a hard disk makes when it spins. Not a faulty hard disk that
screeches or clunks, but rather that smooth slightly metallic whirring
sound. Always rising and falling with the car's speed, never changing
while under accel or decel, never changing with brake application.
And it didn't seem to change a bit upon putting Amsoil gearlube in
the rear end. I've learned to completely ignore it. Except of course
now that you've brought it up again. Thanks a lot. ;]
