shifter rattle, last word, yeah, right

This is my lose-shift-knob-fix.
Use it or don't.

I made a ///M style shifter knob & boot out of Paduk (a red-colored
[matches my car] non-PC wood) and garment-grade leather, and to
hold it on, I used expanding polyeurathane foam wood glue.
No, I didn't glue it on, but rather, I put three "stripes" of the stuff
down the bore, and let it set up. That, along with the key up top to
prevent twisting, has kept it on and solid since April, even after
repeated removals.
For those that are unfamiliar with this stuff, it's not at all like
Elmer's glue. It's a particularly strong glue that expands as it sets up,
but since it's polyeurathane, it remains flexible. It adheres to
EVERYTHING (ask me how I know). It's kinda like the duct tape thing, in
that it forms a wedge, except you don't get that sticky duct-tape gunk on
anything.
For a stock shifter, it should only take one or two drops.
Just be careful, I've seen it split rock maple, and bend 1/8" steel as it
sets!

Or, you could put in a '95 M3 shifter that has been knurled by the Momo
shifter that was on it when it was still in the M3. Worked for me in
the '91 318is (took about 35 min).
