E30 '87 325iC - driver's side seatbelt is stuck

Thanks to everyone that has responded to me on my previous problems, my
instrument panel is well lit, and all my oils are now synthetic. 

I'm curious if anyone had a problem on an E30 convertible where the driver's
side seatbelt is stuck and won't come out. I tried pulling it out using all
kinds of tricks, but it's just lodged in there tight. Has anyone had
experience pulling off the convertibles' side cover that houses the
seatbelt, speaker and the top release lever? I don't _see_ any screws and I
don't want to go yanking at it without thinking it through first. I don't
believe there is a hayes manual that covers the convertibles specifically
and there is no info about this in the one I got.
