<E30> Good news, but yet more questions! :)

I'd like to thank everyone on the digest for the helpful stuff that
usually follows any request here!
My latest (of a long line!) of problems with my 316 was a refusal to
start. I got a couple of responses, and assumed I'd not be able to do
anything really!

BUT...
Last night I decided to have another go at starting the car up. I pulled
all the HT leads and made sure they were connecting properly, and tried
it - it coughed, spluttered and died - which showed something was
happening! So I pulled the Impulse generator circuit connections off &
sprayed liberally with water dispersant. Tried again - same thing. I
then pulled of the air filter and squirted the electrical connections to
the carburettor. Tried again to start the car. It caught briefly, but
the choke flap suddenly shut, and stayed shut.
Somehow, the choke flap jammed in the closed position. There's a clear
mark where it must have been catching for quite a while! I'm (still)
considering getting a Webber replacement carburettor (cost 180 pounds)
when I can, but I want to know what effect it'll have on the car. If
there's anyone out there who's put the Webber replacement for a Pierburg
2BE onto their 316 (or 518) is it an easy job? Does it come with all the
electronic gubbins or does it replace the whole unit & become a manual
choke car?

Thanks again for the helpfulness of everyone!
