Synthetic oil BMW

Someone asked about the bulletin number for the synthetic oil
recommendation.

The BMW bulletin number for recommending synthetic oil as part of extended
service intervals for maintenance and warranty is 11 02 98. It is being
recommended with the introduction of the E46 3 series and will be a factory
fill, with recommendations to service writers to use their BMW Longlife
Oil( a private label product) 5W-40.  There will be a plate on the engines
of these models stating that same recommendation.
