Broken E36 foglights

We've got a 1996 328i with foglights.  Well, with a foglight.
Yesterday, I noticed the glass on the driver's side one was severely
cracked, but the light still worked.  A while ago, I heard about the
E36's having problems with cracking foglights and that they might be
fixed under warranty.  Is this true?  Recommendations???
