E30 FLASHING CHECK LIGHT

I have an 89 325i convertible that is new to me. I replaced the timing
belt and water pump because I couldn't verify when it was replaced
last. My efforts were rewarded with a continuously flashing check
light on the dash. Research so far indicates that turning the key to
the on position with the engine off should reveal a few emissions codes
and tapping gas pedal to the floor five times after turning the key to
the on position should reveal all the codes. Mine just flashes at an
even pace without pauses when the key is turned to the on position
regardless of tapping the gas pedal. The engine runs perfectly
otherwise. I'm assuming I accidently disengaged a connector somewhere,
but it is sure not evident. Also, the battery was removed during the
process. Is there some sort of recalibration procedure to follow to
reset the computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark Post
