<E30> Odometer problem

Hey folks,

My '85 325e odometer is registering about 70% of actual miles driven.
The
speedometer and related OBC functions are functioning properly.
According
to the BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, the speed sensor that
drives
the speedometer and OBC is the same signal that drives the odometer.

Anyone have a clue as to what the problem is and if it can be corrected
without replacing the speedo/odometer assembly?  Can odometers be
repaired ?  If so, can anyone recommend somebody in the Houston area?
