Synthetics or not ??

I recently purchased an 80 euro 635csi,  and need suggestion of the best oil
i can  use,
would the engine & trans be compatible with synthetics oil ?, such as red
lines etc.
if yes what grade would be appropriate, i live in Los Angeles,  CA

i usually run Red Lines, 15-50 , for my E 36, but several people told me to
stick with regular oil for the E24.
